The Patient Care Technician is a member of the health care team who performs functions which support the delivery of a single standard of care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, for a group of patients relating to their hygiene, safety, nutrition, elimination and comfort needs. Performs indirect care tasks and unit related activities. The Patient Care Technician must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of their patients; demonstrate knowledge of growth and development; assess data reflective of the patient's status; and identify each patient's requirements relative to age specific needs. The Patient Care Technician performs specific job criteria/performance standards according to prevailing applicable unit, division, hospital and professional standards.
Selection Criteria:
- High School Diploma or successful completion of GED.
- Completion of an approved nursing assistant training program.
- Ability to follow written/oral communication.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification with at least 6 months validity required.
- Desired: Certification; One year related experience.
- Ability to demonstrate literacy in using computerized information systems.
